"The air of Heaven is that which blows through a horse's ears."  Arabian Proverb

Welcome to Hoof Nexus

There's a paradigm shift going on in the horse world, faster in some places and slower in others but changes are coming to how horses are managed and kept.  These ideas are not necessarily new: Kikkuli and Xenophon are  names being mentioned again and these go back 3300 to 2500 years ago.  In today's world there are just as many opinions about any subject relating to horses, as there are owners.  Some of these opinions are insightful and truthful.  Some are less so.  How do we, as owners, weed through the avalanche of opinion, information and authority to find what will work for us?  Do a search on www.amazon.com for books with 'horses' in the title and you turn up over 85,000 selections. Even if we throw out half of those as being works of fiction or photos that still leaves an overwhelming amount of material to sort through.  Do horses need shoes or don't they?   Do they like living in cozy stalls with fluffy bedding or not?  Is Natural Horsemanship better than traditional?  Do they need to be blanketed or is that harmful?   What is a good saddle?  What is good nutrition?  Is corn good?  Fat?  How much? To wrap or not to wrap?  From training to conditioning to riding to keeping, maintaining and looking after our horses there is so much to know and so many pitfalls and wrong turns to take.

It's enough to make one sell the horses and buy a tropical fish tank.  But if you really love horses, if they are more than just a thing with four legs, if you an see in them something that makes 'magic' in the world, if a horse in a natural state of collection still makes your hair stand on end, if you love the beauty of a horse then you'll wade through it all and fight to do the best for your horse that you are humanly capable of doing.

I'm here to help with one small part of this holistic puzzle: the hooves.  There are case studies here of horses that have transitioned to barefoot:  Some of them about to be euthanized.  There are links to sites that deal with all the issues one must consider when one commits to a holistic view of horse care and there are articles to intrigue you and stimulate your thinking.  I've been a psychologist, a business owner and a computer programmer but I have to admit there is nothing I've done in my professional life that has given me as profound and deep a sense of  satisfaction as working with horses in general and their hooves in particular.  Welcome to Hoof Nexus.
